Don't leave your next career move to chance and control what is under your control, yourself.
Getting prepared for a job interview makes the difference between you and other candidates.
Most candidates just "wing it", see how it goes and hope for the best.
Hope of course, it not a strategy, especially when it is an important moment in your professional life.
You only get one opportunity to make a first impression.
It starts with creating a resume that is appealing, has no spelling or gramatical mistakes and is applicable to the position you are applying for.
Did you know the average time a hiring manager spends on reviewing a resume is six to nine seconds?
If a quick scan finds an unreadable resume layout and spelling errors, it will quickly land on the rejected pile.
At Perfect Pitch Interview Coaching we will review your resume and make sure you are set up for success to make it to the interview round.
Well congratulations if you have received an interview opportunity!
Great! Now what?
Now this is where you can shine and show who you are and set yourself apart from other candidates.
This is often when the nerves kick in.
We have found that candidates who come to the interview prepared are much more in control of their nerves and are able to connect with the recruiter or hiring manager on a personal level.
The difference between candidates who have prepared and those who did not are so large that they immediately stand out in a very positive way and have much more chance to being selected.
Very few have invested time and effort in getting themselves ready. The vast majority is not prepared.
What does being prepared mean? Many things, all of which you can control before the interview.
- Be on time
- Smile!
- Dress appropriately
- In an online interview, use a non distracting background and control the noise
- Have a backup plan for connection issues
- Be ready for the most common questions
- Have fluent responses (this comes with practice)
- Use story telling to make a personal connection
- Don't sound rehearsed or appear to be reading of a paper (yes, we have seen that)
- Have good questions ready for the interviewer (always have 1-3 questions)
- Be grateful of their time to get to know you
- Follow up appropriately after the interview
